25 Book Standard

The homework sheet for this week lists working on the 25 Book Standard folder as homework. I know that many of you are wondering what this is, and I wanted to let you know that more information will be coming home with your child soon. I am currently waiting for all of my copies to be completed so that I may assemble the folders and send them home. I am hoping to have everything completed no later than Friday, but hopefully sooner than that.

In a nutshell the 25 book standard is used to encourage children to read books in addition to their AR books, as well as to respond to literature by writing about what they have read. In the folder you will find an informational letter along with a variety of book logs and reports that can be completed IN ADDITION to doing the AR tests. Throughout the school year students will be recognized for their achievements in the classroom and rewarded with dog tags that signify how many books they have read.

You can help by encouraging your child to complete a report once a week. This does not have to be on an AR book, but any book that interests your child. You can even do reports on magazine articles, newspaper articles, or other reading material of interest. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask!
