Little Red Hen, Telling Time, and the Plus Twos

This week we began working on our Little Red Hen unit. We have read a few adaptations of the story "The Little Red Hen" including one called "Burro's Tortillas". We've been comparing and contrasting these stories, talking about how they are alike and how they are different. Next week we will all participate as a class to put on a play about The Little Red Hen. Each child has a part that we've been practicing in class. We have talked about the setting and will make a backdrop for our play. This will be a lot of fun! I hope to have it recorded and uploaded for your viewing pleasure by early the next week.

In math we are wrapping up geometry and working on tying up a few loose ends. We've begun telling time to the half hour. This skill will not be assessed until the last 9 weeks, but I like to begin practicing daily as soon as possible on this important skill. Next week we will focus on some addition strategies like counting up, using a number line, and counting on your fingers. We will also work on place value, otherwise known as tens and ones.

Here are some resources you can use to practice at home:

stop the clock 1 - does time to the hour and half past

What time is it?

Base 10 game - highlight only the 10 and 1 on the upper left
